SkyWater Search Partners is collaborating with a national engineering and consulting firm looking to add an accomplished Mechanical Designer to their growing team. 

Seeking a Mechanical Designer to collaborate with architects and sub-consultants to handle the technical and design aspects of building architecture, construction, and design/build projects. Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management, along with familiarity in related fields such as electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering, is highly preferred. Prior experience in inspections and investigations related to the construction and design of facilities/structures is also valued. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical systems emphasis is required. Proficiency in creating construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project teams to complete design and technical portions of projects within budget and on time.
  • Support projects independently from concept through construction.
  • Provide technical leadership in mechanical systems design adhering to local codes and client requirements.
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Work within multi-disciplinary teams to create project documents for various stakeholders.
  • Participate in client meetings and discussions.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams, including vendors and manufacturers.
  • Clearly communicate mechanical engineering decisions to clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintain existing relationships with clients and develop new ones.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Perform energy modeling, calculate heating and cooling loads, and analyze HVAC systems.
  • Select mechanical system components and design control systems.
  • Oversee mechanical design aspects and review system drawings.
  • Conduct site evaluations and surveys during construction.
  • Review vendor and client-provided drawings and verify their accuracy.
  • Perform construction administration tasks.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and work within a team environment.
  • Assist with proposal preparation, including creating technical scopes of work and budget estimates.
  • Delegate tasks to junior staff and review their work for quality.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental design standards.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in mechanical engineering principles, including design/build and permitting processes.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning and working alongside adjacent disciplines such as electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, codes, regulations, and compliance requirements in mechanical and construction engineering.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, for complex technical concepts.
  • Leadership and interpersonal communication skills to engage with clients and team members effectively.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and designers.
  • Ability to prepare technical deliverables and plans for complex projects.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to organizational policies.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing schedules and project requirements.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an emphasis on mechanical systems.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering and multi-disciplinary building projects.
  • PE license and/or LEED AP certification are a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for construction document creation is required.
  • On-site work may be required (approximately 2 days per week).
  • Project management or lead engineer experience is beneficial.
  • Experience in education, corporate/commercial offices, state and local government sectors; hospitality experience is a plus.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within project budgets and schedules.

Salary Range:
$85K – $110K, dependent on experience and qualifications, plus benefits and bonuses.
