Cost Accounting Manager

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Cost Accounting Manager to lead and manage cost accounting activities across our client’s organization. This role will be instrumental in maintaining standard product costs, overseeing inventory processes, and enhancing operational performance in collaboration with financial planning and analysis (FP&A) teams and business leaders.
 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a supportive environment that prioritizes excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring timely execution of duties, providing performance feedback, conducting wage reviews, and communicating corporate policies.
  • Maintain and refine accurate standard product costing, including item setup, bill of materials, labor and overhead rates, and material prices/yields.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances, freight-in, and inventory variances, identifying cost improvement opportunities.
  • Oversee the smooth integration of incoming orders into the ERP system.
  • Ensure accuracy in cycle counting programs and evaluate large variances for necessary corrections.
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting to support monthly financial close processes and year-end audits, driving efficiencies and accuracy.
  • Serve as a resource for operational and administrative teams, offering problem-solving expertise.
  • Present financial insights to operational leaders, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with FP&A to ensure accounting practices support financial reporting and analysis, including budgeting, variance analysis, key metrics evaluation, and return analysis.
  • Maintain effective relationships with employees, suppliers, and customers, ensuring timely problem resolution and upholding the company’s professional image.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA is a plus.
  • 5+ years of financial accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • Experience in a multi-plant, multi-company environment is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervise accounting staff, handling responsibilities such as interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and issue resolution in alignment with organizational policies. Competencies:
